Earlier this year, I renewed my personal domain for the the 9th year in a row. It is hard to believe that I have owned my own URL for close to a decade now. My personal site has many different faces over the years. This ranges from an online resume, to a triathlon blog, to now a presentation training site. All of them have been uniquely different but they all have served one major purpose outside of business – they have helped me grow personally and professionally as a side benefit.
As you begin to unlock your potential with your Rodan + Fields business, building a personal web site is a fantastic place to start. Here are a few reasons why:
Your Piece of the Pie
Owning a personal URL whether you use it for your Rodan + Fields business, a resume, a journal, or something completely different enables you to have your own piece of real estate in the great world wide web. It’s your personal footprint. It’s your voice. It’s the place that is uniquely yours. Now, just think about the personal brand you can build for yourself within this space.
Clarity of Thought
For years my personal domain was a blog. I wrote there almost daily and the writing was absolutely therapeutic. I didn’t write for a specific audience. I didn’t write for my employer. I didn’t write for my kid or my parents. I wrote for me. Pure. Raw. Emotional. And, guess what? I was able to get all the clutter in my head out on digital paper so I can process, digest, and learn. I now do that journaling offline but having my own domain was the catalyst to start the habit. It’s almost as if I loved the accountability of an invisible audience.
Pure and Beautiful Ownership
My mom always encouraged me to get an education because she said no matter what happens in life no one can take my education away from me. The same holds true for your personal domain. It’s all you, and no one can take it away from you. Most people today build their businesses (Rodan + Fields folks included) around sites like Facebook which can disappear tomorrow, next week, or next year. But, a personal web site is all yours. That alone is enough of a reason to create one.
Will a personal domain make or break your Rodan + Fields business? Absolutely not. Will it add value to you personally and professionally. That’s a big fat “Yes.”
